The Studios of Cocoa Beach presents “The Blue Series” an exhibit of work by Phyllis Devericks . You can view these paintings ,inspired by the blues of Florida skies and the ocean, during the month of May.
Phyllis captures shades of blue in cloudy, sunny, or stormy Florida skies and translates them beautifully to the canvas. Her ocean pieces evoke the dynamic range of the ocean from calm and tranquil to raging tempest. Her images capture the shades of blue and green in the ocean which vary with the strength and direction of sunlight and the water’s depth. All the paintings evoke the feelings that inspire her paintings.
Phyllis developed an interest in art during an art appreciation course at Drew University .Work life pointed her towards teaching, raising three sons and finally the finance industry, trading bonds for a financial firm in Connecticut.
After moving to Florida, her interest in painting resurfaced .She discovered painting with acrylics and experimenting with inks, oil pastels, pigments, metallic paints, glitter, and gold leaf. She often paints with a pallet knife and uses heavy pigment to create thick texture. Her subjects have included flowers, birds and landscapes and recently she has moved to a more contemporary, abstract style.
“I paint as often as I can and love the time I spend painting. Having outgrown a home office space I now share studio space with a friend. I am thrilled with the change and the new space gives me greater inspiration. I feel extremely fortunate to have an pursuit in which I feel such passion.”
